Hi, my name is Jason.

Technically, it's Rev. Dr Jason John, B. Sc (hons), PGrad Dip Env Stud, B, Min, PhD.

So you can see why I go by "Jason."

I am the part time minister of the Bellingen Uniting Church, and part time ecominister in the Mid North Coast Presbytery.

Before that I was the minister of the Adelaide ecofaith community, where I was able to explore my passion for exploring what it means to be a Christian who is informed and shaped by the new creation stories coming to us from the fields of evolution, ecology, cosmology and so on. I've had a crack at turning some of that exploration into a free book, which I hope will be helpful.

This was a chance to explore the practical implications of my PhD on evolution, ecology and theology. The thesis was my opportunity to start integrating my past studies in zoology and environmental studies with my faith, and with my profession as a minister of religion.

I've also been a uni chaplain, an environment officer in the Qld Uni Student Union, and a researcher for the Queensland Synod bioethics committee. I have a passion for permaculture which I'm hoping to be able to practice in Bellingen with my family.

I don't like labels, but I appreciate the Uniting Church's professed desire for an intellectually credible faith, shaped by contact with contemporary thought. I agree with its rejection of biblical literalism and fundamentalism, but its desire to remain a place where "conservatives" and "liberals" can continue as pilgrims of faith together. You can watch a little video from 2000, which gives some idea of my hopes for the church (and the world really) There is a 300k version or a 600k version with clearer sound.
