ANIMALS/ASSISI INTRO.

These Season of Creation resources have been prepared as part of the Mid North Coast Uniting ecoministry, as has this retro website.

Most of them are also available on DVD through ProjectReconnect.

Serving the reconciliation and renewal of all creation Basis of Union

Seasons of the Spirit is also following the Season of Creation again.
The original liturgies, lectionary readings, and other links are at the original Season of Creation website.

Animals/Assisi

Reflection #1- Discipleship as ethical meat eating, or vegetarianism. Warning, brief scenes of animal factory "farming"

Reflection #2- Animals inside. A very basic introduction to the idea that our brains are comprised of elements of simpler animal brains, which still influence us, in helpful and unhelpful ways. Paul's "Body of death" and other Christians' belief in demons inside us are now better explained by the metaphor of "animals inside"

This started as the "all ages" reflection, but ended up a full length one.

All ages #1. Our friend Ramona Cavanagh happened to come and stay this week, just in time for me to beg her to quickly tell the story of the dolphin/human cooperation, which is one of the stories contained in the painting she gave us years ago.

In the Bible Elijah is fed by ravens (1ki17), Balaam is saved by his talking donkey(!) (Numbers 22). You could ask the children about animal friends, or those who help them. Give thanks for and pray for them. And imagine them praying too, as the psalmist did: all the wild animals and cattle, creey crawlies and flying birds (ps 148)

Born in 1962, Bundjalung painter, Ramona Mun-Mun Cavanagh has had her work shown in the XXVIIth Olympiad in Sydney in 2000.

All ages #2 The bower bird: an "all ages" parable (from Sky Sunday)

Like the prodigal son, the satin bowerbird keeps wanting more and more until he takes even the blue sky, and then comes to his senses. Followed by a short personal reflection on "what is enough?"

The Cassowary's Lament (audio poem)- mp3

Written and read by Barbara Wilkes, a member of Woolgoolga Uniting Church. From the CD "Part of the Magic" Used by permission. Can be played in public. Written to humans from the perspective of a Cassowary.

"We trod the earth before you came... before your people rose to fame..."

All Things Bright and Beautiful is Stupid: Stewart Lee (comedy routine).

The original clip can be found here
I muted the one swear word and shortened it a little, removing the references to creationism at the end.
Because it already exists in a similar form, I haven't listed this clip publicly.

extra resources: music

"Do For Others.../confession"
A reflection on liberation of the captives and doing for others in the context of factory faming and animal ethics.

The lack of sound at the start is deliberate.

All Things Bright and Beautiful. This is a fairly standard version, with one verse by the compilers of Together in Song, and several others missing so that it isn't interminably long. Instrumental. It can be added to the following verses, as part of the service...
"All Things..." a monty python verse pointing out the flaw in the logic of the original song
"All Things..." John Wesley's rebuttal to the Monty Pythons of his day.
"All Things..." The classic tune, but with a newer Christian, evolution affirming set of lyrics. Played much faster than usual. Instrumental
Words by Jason John

printed liturgy
.doc or .pdf Written specifically to accompany and introduce the video resources above. You can also use the Seasons of the Spirit material, if you don't want to create your own.
